“What we are doing here can seem like a drop in the ocean but the ocean will be a drop less if we don’t do it. It’s a challenge, a really big challenge.”
Social Media for Social Good. That’s the idea, and I think we can really do something great. I’ve met some fantastic people via social media – blogs, twitter, and so on. The fact that I already have people offering donations is testament to that. My challenge to the rest of you is… join us.
In my previous post, I talked about the suffering in the Horn of Africa. Everyone loves facts, so here are some.*
- A current [refugee] camp with the capacity for 90,000, currently has 380,000 people crammed into it
- Some 10 million people are said to be affected by the Horn of Africa’s worst drought in 60 years.
- The United Nations said on Wednesday [that] 3.7 million people in the anarchic Horn of Africa nation risked starvation
- Across East Africa, more than 11.3 million people need aid, the World Food Program said.
Definition of Famine
- More than 30% of children must be suffering from acute malnutrition
- Two adults or four children must be dying of hunger each day for every group of 10,000 people
- The population must have access to far below 2,100 kilocalories of food per day
[Famine] conditions include more than 30% of children being acutely malnourished, and four children out of every 10,000 dying daily. – BBC News
And from my charity of choice (as well as the same article):
Save the Children’s Sonia Zambakides told the BBC the situation in Somalia was shocking.
“I was talking to mothers with children, the children looked maybe nine months to one year old – the mothers were telling the children were three and four years old, so they are absolutely tiny.”
She said some of the mothers had walked up to six days with no food to try to find help.
A point of reference – this is the area I’m talking about, with a great break down from information gathered from various agencies such as BBC News (obviously), as well as the UNHCR, USAID, OCHA & Fews Net.
So far, we have some amazingly generous contributions already. Really, any amount is great. Remember, these amounts are tax deductible, because it’s giving to a charity. I know (truly I know) we’re in difficult economic times. I’ve been, as I say, a “victim of the economy” since ’09, really, and am currently unemployed. Anyway, Save the Children is wonderful because your donation has the potential to be quadrupled due to the grants they applied for. Some of you might also want to check with your employers, who often match donations as well. (I also like Save the Children because if I recall correctly, they don’t send you massive amounts of mail after you donate as well.)
Without further ado… the initial names (in alphabetical order) and pledge amounts.
Ali F – $100 if we reach 50 comments + and additional $10!
c² – $50
Christine Bell – $50, $75 if we reach 100 comments!

SonomaLass – $1 per comment up to $100
Shiloh Walker – if we hit 400 comments, she’ll increase her donation by $100, and also post a long excerpt of If You Hear Her
Comments matter. Trust me on this. Also, this year, to help raise awareness, we’ve got prizes! As an incentive to comment – and hopefully donate!- some generous authors are offering prizes. You can find the list here. Those will be drawn when this drive closes, which is a month from now, and posted a week after that. But that’s not the purpose.
I have to say, I hope to be updating this post with more contributions! I have no questions for you today. Just the hope that you’ll spread the word. Thank you. <3
Tiny, emaciated children with wrinkled skin hanging off their bones, rib cages jutting out, bulbous eyes gazing out forlornly, flies covering their faces – the all-too-familiar images of African hunger.
“Some of them die on the way, some die in the wards,” said Dr Christopher Karisa. “What we are doing here can seem like a drop in the ocean but the ocean will be a drop less if we don’t do it. It’s a challenge, a really big challenge.” – BBC News
And this, from the same article as the previous quote, which just breaks my heart.
One aid worker told me: “We were supposed to have an early warning system but what is the point of warning the rest of world when it doesn’t listen?”.
So what are we going to do to help alleviate the tragedy and suffering? Donate to Save the Children. Specifically, this page that can potentially quadruple your gift! HERE! Please – join us. Challenge your friends and family to donate as well. I’m keeping this post/drive open for a month.
To end on a positive note – there is of course, always hope. Take for example, this woman, who I think is one of the most incredible in the world. Read her story. You won’t regret it.
*I also got info from these sources here, here, here, here, and here.

[...] Comments « A Humanitarian Crisis: What We Can Do To Help [...]
Limecello, thank you for starting this and for all the others who have joined in to help.
This is amazing! Will be spreading the word for sure…
I wish I were in a financial position to contribute. Since I’m not, I’ve heard from Smart B*****s Trashy Books that folks are donating based on the number of comments. I’m happy I can do this much!
Thank you.
Ditto – hope it helps at least a little.
Thank you.
Thank you for doing this!!
I love this idea, thank you so much for doing this. Hugs!
Thanks to all who are contributing. I’ll spread the word.
Commenting and passing this on
Count me in, too.
Great link, will be sharing…
Thank you.
I’m so glad you brought this to my attention. I’ll surely help to spread the word.
Saralee Etter
Thank you for supporting such an important cause. It’s so easy to take everything we have for granted and not realize how many in the world suffer.
Tiffany Grinstead
http://tiffanygrinstead.blogspot.com/
I agree with Tiffany. Limecello, you are doing amazing work for an important cause!
What a great initiative. Thanks for bringing this to all of our attention. I plan to donate as soon as I’ve finished here.
I’m new to your blog and would love to help out by posting!
This is such a great cause, and I’m glad to be a part of what you’re doing here to help the crisis.
Anyway I can help! Especially when one is tragically poor. You’re doing something beautiful here, Lime. Keep it up, keep it up!
Thank you for galvanising us all. I was born in Kenya and it is a country my parents and grandparents loved passionately.
As an individual we can do so little but collectively we can do so much.
Alison
This is an awesome idea!
I heard about this from Smart B*****s Trashy Books and am happy to help out in this small way. Thanks so much for doing this!
This is a wonderful act of goodwill. I wish you the best of luck on your campaign. : )
This is so great how everyone is coming together! I’m happy to donate and will certainly pray about this!
WOW, This is a great charity and hope this helps at all.. I’ll be sure to let other people know about this..
this is a wonderful idea. i do try and support different causes. everytime i see the name LIMECELLO written it reminds me of a fragrance of a candle from a few years ago lemoncello, tangy, fresh, light and summery.
You are doing an amazing thing! Thank you for taking the initiative.
Consider me commented.
What a wonderful response!
Wonderful idea.
Bless you for doing such a good thing here, Lime!!
What a great contest! Hope you reach your mark! Well do for all the donations!
Amazing idea!!!
If you’d like to join in, please! Do so! And let me know if you want me to add you to the post.
And… *shhh* a secret, a few of us with stipulations are going to give the amount regardless, but remember, the point here is to raise awareness *AND* money. So go – be generous! It’s tax deductible!
I will also note, Save the Children is an international organization. Here in the US, we’ll of course be giving to the US branch. I trust them to use the money where it is most needed. Their financials are on the site, and Charity Navigator gives them a great rating. Just wanted to note that. The famine in Africa is the driving force in raising awareness, but the end result and ultimate purpose is raising money to help children in need.
Hey there! I’ll give $1 per comment, up to $300. Comment away, folks.
Great cause. Put me down for $5o. And hope you reach the 300 comments needed to empty Courtney’s pockets
You’re such a good person, lime.
Commenting and retweeting!
am on phone & dont do $ stuff on the phone but put me down for $10. this is great idea, Lime. good on you.
I already pledged $10, but if I can set aside a little more, here and there, I’ll up my donation!
Huggles to limecello and her enormous heart!
Great idea and a worthy cause.
Count me in on this.
A great idea!
What a brilliant post and how generous you and your co-sponsors are. I wish I could afford to donate more than I have – I’ve been listening to the news reports and feeling so helpless. One mother had decided to let her youngest child die because that was the only way she felt she had a chance to keep the rest alive. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to conclude that this was your only option. Fortunately in this case aid workers intervened and saved the child, but how many similar cases are currently out of their reach? In the absence of any spare cash, I’m going to take a load of my old books to Oxfam this afternoon.
A great idea, truly. I’ll spread the word.
Just found out about this. To echo other, great idea!
Best of luck in your efforts here! Will try to help spread the word on this.
Such compassion can only make the world a better place. Will spread the word.
Lime – I follow you on Twitter but linked over from Smart Bitches. Everyone should follow Lime & Smart Bitches on Twitter. Just sayin’.
I write over-the-top romance and promise my readers a HEA. After reading your post, I realize that for too many of our brothers and sisters around the planet, a happy ending means not being hungry.
In today’s tough economy we may be juggling the cable bill, the electric bill and the mortgage, but most of us aren’t deciding whether or not we can afford a meal today. Your post is a potent reminder that even when our pockets aren’t full, our mouths aren’t empty. We should all reach out and help.
Thank you for standing up for the truly needy and for reminding me how lucky I am not to be amidst that number.
How absolutely heartbreaking. Thank you for doing this.
Thank you, Lime. I truly believe that this makes a difference.
I’ll spread the word!
I will repost to facebook. Thanks to all the authors who are contributing.
This is a wonderful thing you’re doing. Thank you so much.
“Social Media for Social Good” — I love it! Thank you for sharing this.
Awesome idea to raise money for a great cause!
Great cause. I’ll definitely be tweeting about it.
…Thank you for being awesome and good luck raising funds & awareness
A wonderful idea. I hope you are able to raise lots of donations. I’ll retweet to my small group of followers.
this is a great cause. it finally hit home with me last night when i was watching channel 4 news and saw Jerry Rawlings weep as he spoke of what he had seen in the camps. i hope you make a difference.
This is a great idea! Thank you for raising awareness and money too!
Count me in for $100. I’ve been wondering how to contribute to this cause. Thanks for providing the opportunity within the community I love, Limecello.
Great idea to raise both money and awareness.
I hope to contribute monetarily, but at the least I can contribute by raising attention.
It is heartbreaking how much hunger there is in the world – kind of hard to fathom in this day and age.
Commenting and linking on f-book!
Thank you for taking this initiative, and thanks to SBTB for getting me to this post!
I’m here from SBTB, and wanted to say what a great idea! If people could just spend ten minutes every day learning something new about what’s going on in the rest of the world and engaging with it, it would be a better place.
This is fantastic, Lime. Thank you for your dedication to a good cause. I pledge $100 for 100 comments — the world needs more people like you!
Komo mai kau mapuna hoe.
I “dip my paddle in” to join this extraordinary effort!
This is a great idea and a great cause! I’ll make sure a little from my next paycheck goes to them!
Found this via SBTB and shared on Facebook. Such a great idea! I’ll pledge $100 for 100 comments as well.
Can’t do a pledge at this point, but sure as hell can comment
What a great cause. I love seeing this community come together like this.
This is wonderful. Using social media to raise money for charity is a great idea. ^_^ I wish I could pledge money of my own, but I’ll try to at least pimp out the blog post .
I’ll spread the word too!
Fantastic! And shared on G+ etc. -Liz
This is a wonderful cause. Thanks to everyone for participating.
A wonderful cause – thank you so much for doing this.
The romance community rocks! Thank you for raising awareness and setting up such a great, informative post. I’m sharing it on my FB page today!
Great cause. Will spread the word.
This is wonderful, Lime. I am SO beside myself to see the romance community come together yet again for a truly worthy cause. Most of us are so very lucky, every single day, to be in a position to take three square meals for granted. This is just not the case for many, many people in the world. If we can change that for even a single child…well, that matters. I’m in for the flat $50 donation no matter the comments, but I’m going to add another $25 if we get over 100.
I wanted to say to anyone reading that ANY amount, no matter how inconsequential it may seem, means more in a place ravaged by poverty than it does here. Many people live on less than $1 a day in the world, so if you can spare it, even a $5 donation makes a difference. If you can’t, like Lime said, we can all contribute to comments and raising awareness, so spread the word!
$5 from me! This makes the whole statement ‘Children in Africa are starving’ a little more than just a threat from mom to get you to eat your dinner.
Will spread the word on!
I’ll throw in $100 too. Kudos to you, Lime, & all the other contributors and commenters.
Good cause.
Awesome! Spreading the word
This is wonderful! I´ll spread the word!
Very cool! I’ll definitely spread the word!
This is a serious issue. Great cause thank you for your help.
I’ll spread the word, what a wonderful way to really help make a difference!
I’ll spread the word – let’s get hundreds of comments! This is so wonderful, and such a great idea. Thanks for doing this.
What a great idea to raise both awareness and money for the cause.
What a great way to help starving children. I respect you immensely and wish I could do the same. Good luck and best wishes in your endeavor! – Sarah
I just read an article about the famine in Somalia (Chicago Tribune today). This is a great way to raise awareness. Thanks!
Way to harness social media power for good! And cheers to all contributors – you’re all inspiring!!
Way to go! Huzzah for helping!
What a great idea! A little too tapped to donate today, but I can comment. And spread the word. If I can help before the month is up, I’ll do it! Once again, Romance authors/readers prove to be some of the most generous people I know.
I just got back from a trip and am too tired to count or do math.
So I’m in for an even $100. Great idea!
Great cause and thank you for raising awareness!
I’ve done my bit and tweeted and shared it with others!
I so admire you, Lime. Thank you for shining a light on this horrible crisis!
What a wonderful idea, limecello! I’ve just set myself a reminder to make a donation on Monday (IOW next payday).
Great post! Already donated what I could!
You’re a good lass, Lime, to set this up. I’m spreading the word where I can.
What a great post!
Many thanks for taking the time and for the ones who generously donated!
Good luck with your pledges!
I’ll be spreading the word as much as I can as well. Good Luck!
Good luck with the collection and I hope you get many more comments.
So glad to see people spreading awareness, since our own media is usually more concerned with celebrity baby bumps or who’s in and out of rehab… Thank you all for redeeming my faith in humanity today:)
Great idea – thank you for raising our level of awareness.
Thanks to all the generous contributors! As well as Limecello for organizing this and spreading the word. I’m a Save the Children fan as well.
Hope you get many more comments!
I already donated directly, but I hope my comment can help some!
I will happily leave a comment, and get more people to do the same.
Thank you for your efforts on behalf of this sad situation.
SB Sarah sent me. I’ll let my friends know and I’ll head over to the donation site.
I’ve donated through World Vision–although not enough.
But reallly, if everyone gives a bit–that’s a strike against the scourge of hunger.
I attended a conference on world hunger a while back and the speaker started her presentation by telling us all to close our eyes and imagine waking up to a new day, weak and hungry (starving!), with nothing–absolutely nothing–to eat other than what we could forage for. Some seeds, grass, weeds, dirty water… She said to visualize the search for food as our sole purpose for the day ahead and we’d understand–as much as possible given our privileged lives–that hunger is the loss of all freedom, because it eliminates every other choice and leaves only one, find food or die…
We live in a world where no one should go hungry, yet they do. My heart is with the families in Somalia.
EC Sheedy
Great idea!
Just hearbreaking. I’ve donated. Thank you for doing this.
You do this every year? It’s wonderful.
Thank you.
I will donate a dollar for every comment, up to 500 comments. I hope you get them all.
What a lovely thing to do. I hope you get lots of comments and lots of donations.
Excellent choice of a charity to support, Limecello! They’re on my regular donate list because, unlike some others, these guys put 90% of every dollar collected toward the people they are helping… and they are helping some of the neediest people in the world. My donation is made!
Good luck!
This is an important cause and a great way to raise much needed funds. Keep up the great work!
How awesome! I’ll spread this post around!
Great cause — will tweet & help spread the word!
This is my comment!
What a wonderful cause.
I’ll donate $25, just tell me when and where!
Woo Ho- You go Girl! This sprang forth like a rocket. Kuddos to bringing another travesty to light.
They also serve who only buy another Courtney Milan novel so she can afford her donation…
Good Luck.
I appreciate that sentiment, but I can afford it no matter what happens with my books, and if you have a buck to throw around, give it directly to charity, not to Amazon.
This is an excellent cause. I was just tweeting about how hungry I was for lunch and seriously how lucky am I that I can, you know, HAVE lunch if I want it. Others aren’t nearly so lucky. Thanks for the reminder, Limecello!
Typing up my blog to send people your way. This is such a great thing Lime. Smooch!
This is heartbreaking. Thank you for raising awareness and donations! I’ll do my best to send more people this way.
Good luck with your Social Media quest! It’s a fabulous thing to do. I’m off to share a link on Twitter!
Thank you, Lime, for being one of those amazing people who will take that difficult first step and lead the charge. Africa has been in trouble for so long, we stop seeing it. Just like the stain on the ceiling or the tear in the rug. We need to be shocked into paying attention, especially when other tragedies turn our heads for a little while.
I’m going to donate $10 for every 100 comments. Going over to make my first payment now!
You rock!
A wonderful cause and a great way to organize and raise awareness.
It’s always awesome to see someone using their social media for good.
Excellent cause and fantastic idea. Nicely done, limecello.
Social media for social good … an idea whose time has come! This is my comment … and will you forgive a little shameless self-promotion? My debut novel, a contemporary romance entitled Finding Felicity, comes out next month! So excited! I’m proud to be a part of the romance community
Amazing. It’s inspiring to see so many people helping to raise awareness and money for such an important cause.
Thank you for doing this
HEY. I can COMMENT. Forgot that part. Spread the word folks! Just leaving a comment can help!
what a great cause
I’m very impressed. This is so generous! Congrats for the great iniciative!
This is an example of what makes the romance community special. Love doesn’t care about color, ethnicity, social status or religion. It can feed your soul but not your belly. That’s why things like this are so tremendous. Thanks for stepping up, Lime!
Lime – another great cause! I hope you have as much success this year as you did last year!
I’ll leave a comment and then check to see if there is a paypal link.
Such a great cause! Thanks for starting the ball rolling Lime!
I think it’s great you’re doing this, and awesome that so many people are commenting and donating. Rock on!
What a great cause, and I hope my comment helps!
What a wonderful cause..
Here’s to many, many more comments .
Many thanks for this!
I really wish I had more to contribute to this. You said even comments help, so I hope you’re right and that this counts for something.
What you’re doing is wonderful. Thank you, and to those who donated and commented, too.
Just read an article about this and it seems that the different factions in control are letting in more humanitarian aid.
Thank you!
Bravo, bravo on setting your sights so far afield. Truly a global village
great cause
Thanks for raising both awareness and $$. I’m in for $100. I’ll post on FB too.
Wonderful post, Lime. Thank you for your efforts!
Good choice of charities. Bless you for what you’re doing.

Unfortuneately I can’t donate- but I can comment – thanks for starting this.
Great to see that we’re well past the 100 comment mark. Now let’s meet the bigger challenges!
Thank you for doing this! I hope to be able to contribute financially before the month is up, but I will be spreading the word in the meantime!
Great cause! I keep retweeting this but finally got to make it here. Put me down for a $50 donation. Let me know where and how to make it happen.
Also, I challenge my fellow small press authors to make a donation. If we get 50 small press authors to make a donation, I’ll double my donation to $100 total.
Sure, I can do that. $1 pledged from a fellow Samhain author.
Samhain author — already pledged $25 to the cause!
I’m a Carina Press/Ellora’s Cave author and I’m already in for $75 but I’ll make it $76!
I’m a small press author and made a donation. Count me in. Thanks.
Count me, Avery! I’m with Amber Quill.
I don’t think I’d heard about this famine before now. Thanks for doing this, Lime.
Great cause, hope more people comment.
That’s such a good cause!doll…your an *angel* lime
)
Great idea. I will try help spread the word.
Save the Children is a GREAT organization. I donate to them annually and just did an extra donation through the matching donation link on dooce.com (I think they’ve finished). I’m so glad that my commenting here can add another few dollars to their coffers. Bravo to Limecello and the authors who are contributing.
Thanks for letting me know about this.
Such a great cause! Thanks for putting the awareness out.
Wonderful that you– and everyone helping out, of course– are doing this!
This so amazingly awesome. Thank you for sharing and making me aware of this great cause!!!
Smart Bitches, Trashy Books sent me over here, and I’m certainly glad it did. I love that 150+ comments are here already.
What a great idea to support this causes. Thanks to limecello & all the writers for your contributions.

These writers who are donating based on comments are incredibly generous. Good luck with the cause.
Nice to see people putting the power of media to a good cause! Thank you
Can’t donate right now but I can comment and tweet. Will also fb it! Lime, you really are a sweetie fort doing this! Huggles to you.
What a wonderful event, and a great cause. I’m happy to leave a comment to help in the effort.
Thank you for waking me up. I was just thinking that I hadn’t bought any “vacation souvenirs” yet. Now I’m thinking that instead of buying more stuff I don’t need, maybe it’s time to give to someone else.
this is a great cause i will pass the word
Many thanks for your effort. Great idea too!
Go Limecello! Thanks for spreading the word.
Thanks for trying to make a difference!
geart cause i will pass the word.
Awesome work.. Great idea! Tweeting and spreading word for you!

Wonderful cause and I’m so pleased to see so many others commenting.
What a great idea to raise money and awareness!
It is hard enough just thinking about parts of Africa, God only knows what it must be like to live there.
Thank you so much to everyone contributing – and commenting!
This is awesome… Will RT too…
Lime, you’re an inspiration! Thank you for doing this.
Excellent post and idea, Lime
I’m a small press author too
This is wonderful, thank you for doing this.
Thank you for doing this!
Lime, This is so very generous of you…not only to donate the money which I know is probably much needed, but to raise the awareness for many others to rally around. Even without your personal donation, just organizing something like this is amazing!
I’ll make sure to mention this on my blog and direct them here to hopefully increase the donations made.
What a wonderful, fun way to raise money
Adding my contribution. $1 per comment to 300 comments.
Thanks for doing this again, Lime. And to everyone else who is giving, comments or otherwise, woot!
so sad that things like this happen in this day and age
Thanks for bringing attention to this cause, Limecello. Will RT!
How lovely that there are still generous people in the world. May angels smile on you and keep you safe.
Awesome idea!
I remember raising money at school for the famine in the mid-80s. How tragic that 25 years later East Africa is again experiencing such devastation.
I could have sworn I left a comment…oh well, I shall do it again. Awesome idea and happy to contribute what I can.
You rock.
Thanks for bringing this crucial information to our attention. There is no excuse in this day and age for people to be starving.
This is a fabulous initiative Limecello. Well done, and also to those who are donating.
Definitely a horrible tragedy. Unfortunately, history has not been kind to the people of Africa as a whole. The worst part is the children who have to suffer. Thanks for stepping up, Limecello, and everyone who’s donated money and time.
Thank you for stepping up to help out with such a worthy cause. I can donate $25.
Thank you for hosting this fundraiser for such a worthy cause. I donated $25 via the link.
Thanks to everyone contributing. I love to see how a little bit from a whole bunch of people can add up so significantly.
Adding in my comment…
Thank you for bringing the Somalis to our attention. I know I’ve heard about their struggle in the news, but hadn’t had a chance to participate, even from this distance. Congratulations on making a difference.
Best,
Mary Anne
I’m in awe of the generosity of everyone here.
I hadn’t heard a thing about how bad it was in Somalia until this very week. How does something this huge go completely unreported in the US?
I’m here from SBTB, commenting with thanks for your effort. I’ll do my best to scrape together a donation this week.
Thank you for doing this!
compassion and generosity are sexy! keep up the awesome work!
Thank you for using Social Media for Social Good and for taking up this cause.
Best!
Patricia
Thank you for highlighting this issue!
I think it’s awesome that you’re doing this. Thank you for raising awareness like this!
Kudos…lovely and unselfish..
linked from SBTB, good luck and best wishes to all!
This is a comment. This is only a comment. Had this been a test of the Emergency Alert System, you would have heard some sort of tone around now. This concludes this comment.
In thinking about one comment, I think of how my awareness often spreads awareness to those around me. It’s a chain reaction. <3
It is a fantastic thing you are doing here – thank you!
Yay comment!
I love that you are doing this again. Thank you for helping raise awareness.
I love seeing some of my favorite authors are contributing to this very worthy cause. It makes me want to support them all the more! And a big thank you to Limecello for spreading the awareness.
No one should die of hunger. Period. Many thanks!
I’m so impressed with the contributions! The world is a better place because of people like you.
Bless your heart, Lime, & I wish I could do more.
Thanks for your generosity!!
Normally, I only lurk, but this is too important not to make a comment. Thanks so much for getting the message out. I’ve made a $100 donation.
Thank you!
Thank you for helping!
I can’t believe how much you’ve accomplished here in such a short time. Thanks you so much for doing this.
This is really creative. If i had the money to I would definitely help out. Thank you to all of you who can help out this is a good cause.
I’m back from the Save the Children site where I donated a hundred bucks. But I wanted to comment to get the numbers up over here for the other pledges. STC is a wonderful agency with a lot of experienced and amazing staff who work all over the world. Totally worthy cause.
Thanks lime for doing this
You are awesome!! What a great cause
This is a wonderful cause, and so desperately needed. You’re doing a great thing, Lime!
And I’m in for $100.
Everyone keep commenting!
Adding my comment for a great cause.
This is an awesome cause. Adding my comment.
You’re the best, Lime.
Definitely a great thing to do!
Great cause, way to go authors and everyone else who contributes!
Thank you for raising awareness!
Thanks so much for blogging about this, Lime. This is terrible for everyone, but as a mother especially, it tears my heart out to imagine this happening to children.
We seldom appreciate just how lucky we are. Can any of us really imagine what it would be like to be in the place these mothers are – walking for days, leaving a dead child behind by the side of the road, and sitting in a refugee camp watching the rest of our children starve to death.
Many years ago I was in the Peace Corps, and a drought hit one of the neighboring valleys. Schools were closed because of it. When they reopened the next year, there were only half of the children left to attend school. The rest had starved to death. This is an example I use with youth groups and classes I work with. Something they can easily relate to. This famine is so much greater in magnitude it is hard to grasp, even for adults.
I hope you manage to raise lots of money for this cause.
A day doesn’t go by I don’t feel blessed my sons are happy and healthy. <<>> to you for what you’re doing!
Lime, I want to say that you seriously rock for doing this. And of course all of the romance community rocks to begin with but even more so for supporting your cause!
This is such a worthwhile cause. I definitely want to help and contribute however I can.
This is a great idea, and Save the Children does some really great work!
One of my favorite charities. A very worthy cause!
What a wonderful cause! You have my backing, I’ll donate.
A most worthy cause. What a heartbreaking situation they are facing over there.
Ashley Marsh brought this to the attention of the Romance Biggest Winners group. Best wishes for your noble efforts. You’re making a difference and inspiring us all.
I learned about this issue and emergency fundraising from author Ashley March. I hope that together we can make a difference.
What a great cause. I’m so happy everyone is steppingng in to help
Thank you for bringing this cause to everyone’s attention.
One of my older son’s sons friends met and married a man she met in Africa when she was serving in Namibia in the Peace Corps. Her parents were two of the very first Peace Corp participants. Her husband had to go back to become the chief of the tribe last year when the current chief died. She lives here with their 3 children. Because of the unrest now in Africa he cannot visit the US and his family here. It is his responsibility to support and take care of the entire tribe during these times of unrest.
The problems in Kenyon are even worse and we must do all possible to support them.
As part of the Romance Biggest Winner, I’m contributing $10 with Ashley March and many others.
At the end of our weight loss challenge (in six months), I’ll donate $1/pound that I lose as well. My goal is 25 lbs but I’d be thrilled with more!
I’ve already donated $25 through the link you provided, Limecello. Thanks for doing this!
I saw something on a news channel. The video was really shocking. A mother would walk to the overflow camps with her children, and pick up another child along the way. If anyone showed up alone, another family would just take them in. Even though they themselves had next to nothing. The really shocking part was how long this has been going on.
What a great cause! Thanks for bringing awareness to it.
Thank you for caring.
Best of luck with the fundraising. I’m happy to play a small part.
How do I share this page on my facebook page? I want to share this with my friends so they can help too.
Hi Mary,
Thank you so much for your interest and help! If you just post the link to this post: http://limecello.wordpress.com/2011/07/21/crisis/ in your update box at Facebook the link (and possibly an image) will appear.
Let me know if you need additional help, and thanks again!
Regarding the link posted in this line, “To end on a positive note – there is of course, always hope. Take for example, this woman, who I think is one of the most incredible in the world. Read her story. You won’t regret it”
That link leads to a story on airspace at nytimes.com. Do you know where your story got moved to? I’m hunting their somali stories, but haven’t found anything yet…
Thanks!
Oh dear, Elisa – thanks for pointing that out. I think I fixed it – I’ll have some people check, but this is the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/08/world/africa/08somalia.html?_r=1&ref=africa
Thanks so much for all of your effort and work to raise awareness of this issue. Happy to help!
Count me in for $50
Comment 270ish!
I’m not sure what I can afford to donate this month, but I’m hoping it’s going to be $25. It’ll definitely be at least $5, though. Donation will happen w/ the quadruple-ing site to make it go further!
It’s painful to be going through a weight loss regime when others are facing hunger levels of this magnitude. I console myself w/ the knowledge that I’ll have more money to donate because I’m eating less.
Going to spread the word on my blog, FB, twitter, google , maybe even send an email to close friends and family.
Anything to help! Thank you, Lime!
Sincere thanks to all these generous authors for pitching in and encouraging others to join them! I’ve sponsored a child in the U.S. with Save the Children for many years, since the birth of my son. He’s now 26. It’s a good charity.

I’m donating $100 as well… Awesome of you Lime to draw such attention to this.
Excellent cause! Thanks for the information.
Some of those blogs with the huge fan followings have people vying (rather oddly, if you ask me) to post the first comment. Well, I’m glad to not be the first on this one, and I certainly hope I won’t be the last.
Good luck!
Such a great cause! Thank you for doing, Limecello!
Thanks for this Lime! Wonderful cause.
I really wish I knew what we could do to stop this ongoing cycle of famine in Africa. But in the meantime, thank you for supporting such a wonderful cause.
Wow, what a great & informative post! Thanks for all the work you’ve put into this project.
Excellent project! Thanks for your hard work. I’m off to post this on my fb page and email list!
This is fabulous, lime. What a great cause! I’ll pitch in another $100!
Thank you for spreading the word!
I don’t have the words to express the horror I felt reading this post. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help.
I’m commenting.
What a great idea! Good luck. It looks like it’s going to be a huge success!
What a great way to help a great cause!
This is an amazing thing that you are doing. Thank you so much for bringing this cause to so many people’s attention.
Love seeing the romance community bringing attention to this often overlooked tragedy. Thanks to everyone for contributing!
That’s a great way to help.
Thank you, Limecello, for doing all this. I commend you for your efforts.
Thanks for doing this!
This is so great, Lime. You are awesome.
Go LIME GO!!! I’ thrilled to participate in this with Romance Biggest Winner.
Hey y’all!
This is so cool;) I’m donating w/RBW and way to go to all that can help:)
Mel
Terrific idea, Lime, and I’m thrilled to able to participate through the Romance Biggest Winners team.
Awesome generosity! Will tweet it to get more to comment.
What a precious gift! Thank you for all you do.
RT’d it to my 2900 followers on Twitter (both of my accounts) and made a donation. Thanks for doing, this, Lime. More attention needs to be put toward ending these famines.
This is such a fantastic cause, Limecello! You are awesome for doing this!
About to go RT this… I hope you get tons of comments!
I’m posting on FB. You are fabulous for starting this.
Lu
Hey Lime, this is a great thing you’re doing. Comments for donations to help people is a great thing. DON”T COUNT ME IN FOR THE CONTEST! I’m gonna share the link on my FB page.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
I love people that help. Thank you for showing us that one person can do a lot of good.
Such a horrendous situation. Thanks for getting the word out. The generosity here is inspiring.
Thank you for doing this and thank you, Paula Robinson for putting it on your fb page!
Thank you SO much for doing this.
Thank you all so much for doing this! I made a $100 donation to Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres. (They were on my company’s matching list- thanks for pointing out that option. Everyone should definitely look into it!)
Forgot to mention- Doctors Without Borders is providing nutritional and medical support in the region, so it fits with the wonderful purpose of this post/challenge.
This is absolutely amazing. Thank you all!
Limecello, the support you’ve garnered for this unbelievably worthy cause is truly amazing. I can easily imagine all the children that have been helped by your generous posters. Kudos to you for starting something so wonderful.
Your doing a wonderful thing
This is an absolutely amazing effort …. I’m going to spread the word around ….. Great work everyone
Save the Children is definitely a worthy cause. Best wishes with the fundraising!

Thanks for organizing this! I’m off to make some of my favorite authors pay.

I just tried to use the link to make a donation, but I don’t think it went through. The website seems to be having some problems! Maybe you have generated so many generous donations that it is in overload!
Janice – eeek! That is *not good* at all. I’m going to try to follow up – hopefully you’re okay with me emailing you! :X
Kudos for doing this. I have to figure out the link to make a donation, but at least this morning my comment can help!
I have no idea how I missed this! Put me down for a $25 donation! I’ve seen the stories in the media recently and it is just heartbreaking. It’s great to see the romance world making a difference. Social media really is a wonderful thing! Kudos to everyone stepping up to comment and donate!

Good work here. I’ll help add to the comments, and I’ll figure out a donation too.
I just donated $50, so you can add me to the list and the grand total. Keep up the good work.
Count me in!
So sad what is happening over there and I’m glad that you and others are doing something about it! Bravo and the poor souls that are suffering are in my thoughts and prayers.
I thinks it’s great that you’re doing this.
This is awesome!!! Great job, and good luck!
As I am unable to contribute anything more than my comment at this point, I will help spread the word about what a wonderful thing you are doing here!
You are doing a wonderful thing. I see you are almost at the 350 point – yay!
It’s wonderful that you are bringing it to people’s attention.
Thanks for the reponse. I’ll put this information to good use.
Thank you for your efforts!
This is a great thing you are doing!
*cheers you on!*
Amazing thing you’re doing here! Way to go, Limecello & contributors!
Limecello ~ thank you for taking the time to make us aware of how easy it is to help people who are so in need. Every little bit helps.
God smiles on your for your kindness. I’ll spread the word as well.
So, now you have 357 responses.
Thank you to limecello for doing this and to everyone who is making donations. We’re up to 358.
Wow! Over 350 comments! That’s awesome. I’m adding another $25 donation to the pot, courtesy of my mom.
This is fabulous! Sorry I’m just now commenting. Finally a little more coherent. Will spread the word on the internet!
I love the thought behind this. Very unique and wonderful!
This is amazing, thanks for all your efforts, Lime. I just donated $25.

Excellent cause, and happy to help! I just hope the donations can get there in time. My SIL talked to a friend who volunteers with an international aid organization, and he said their biggest problem is getting the aid to the people — armed thugs are preventing them from getting in. What kind of scum do that????
I hope this even helps just one drop!
Great idea! I hope you get a lot of comments!
I am so thankful for God’s grace!
We are so lucky to live in the USA – we should all remember that!
I saw the news about your post on the Smart Bitches website. I’m happy to help!
We are so blessed in this country we sometimes forget others who are not….thanks Limecello for sparking us into action
Thanks for spreading the word about such a great cause.
Thank you for doing this….will spread the word:)
Nicely done Limecello! This post is an inspiration and a sad, but much needed, reminder.
What an inspiration you are for actually taking the initiative like this!! Came here after a blog by Larissa Ione. Glad to be help out in whatever tiny way I can.
Came here via Larissa Ione. What a great thing you’re doing!
great cause and I will spread the word
Swinging by with another comment- thanks again for bringing attention to this issue!
this is so awesome! I’ll be spreading the word…..
What a great thing to do. That is so very nice.
What a great thing to do. We are considering just what we can afford to do. So I’ll let you know what we do.
But for now I can comment if nothing else.
hugs,
WendyK
Awesome cause. It never ceases to amaze me how social media can be used to help others. It’s nice to see it not just as a way for people to gossip, put each other down or share the things they like, but to genuinely help a cause. Thank you.
How nice. Thanks for doing the research for me and making it nice and simple to help change the world for a few kids.
Sorry it took so long to get my butt over here. You’re doing an amazing thing; I wish there were more I could do.
Here’s my comment. I’ve been retweeting your tweets but haven’t yet commented. This has been amazing to watch. What great hearts there are here.

What an awesome effort, Limecello! Count me in to help! xo
adding a post for comment credit
I’ll comment since right now not financially able to contribute. Got bills rolling in from my surgery that insurance hasn’t paid. But I’m happy to comment to help the donations along.
Here’s another comment to help you reach 400. Only 13 more to go.
The more I hear about the famine the sadder I get. Thanks for trying to help (and posting the donation link)!
How’s the appeal going, Lime?
Toni – thanks for asking! I’m really hoping we hit 500 comments by the end of the drive… but whatever we get will be awesome. (Secretly I’m holding out for more…) As for donations, I haven’t gotten any recently, but there’s still time, of course. Thanks for asking, and for being so generous! People are continuing to spread the word, which is fantastic.

One more closer to 400.
Limecello – ROCKS! Great!
Lime, so amazed that you are doing this. Go, you!
This is such an awesome thing you are doing!!
Lime, you are such a good person. I’m in the UK and I’ve already made a donation through Doctors without Borders who are brilliant, but hope you get loads more comments. You rock!
I’m always distressed that these types of disasters continue to occur. With all our knowledge, resources and technology how have we been unable to create and maintain sustainable communities? I get more and more discouraged as the years go by. This is disheartening. I never thought I would see it this bad again. Thank you for helping to take a drop out of the ocean.
Oh, very nice, people! Authors are such generous folk. Wish I wasn’t unemployed or I would contribute as well.
Yay for a very good cause!
Everyone is so incredibly generous – thank you for all being a part of this! And for letting us participate too.
Lime, I’m ashamed it took me so long, but I’ve donated £50 via the UK Save the Children so that they can reclaim the tax I’ve already paid on that 50 and get a bit more. This is a good thing you are doing, my friend.
What a great cause!
Wonderful job, Limecello! And thanks to all who are donating!

The final total for the readathon was 5 books, so my donation is $25! I’m extra excited because the host of the readathon is matching my donation plus adding in $5 for each book she finished. I’ll have to send her this way!
Love it – can’t wait to get your email/final total! <3 Thanks!
Sorry I didn’t donate for your charity, but My H and i did our donate through the Red Cross, and do so monthly. Wishing you all the best, for you and all have the biggest heart anywhere. This is why there are earth bound angels…*S*

Great post. Good Luck! Off to Tweet about you. ;0
I just made my donation from my readathon- $25 through the matching gift site! Lisa from Once Upon a Chapter also donated $45- $25 to match mine and $20 for her own reading. Thanks for all you do!
How did I miss this before? I will pledge $50, and another $50 if you hit 450 comments.
I just donated and have emailed Limecello some prizes I’ll offer up for more participation.
I pledged $50.00. Glad to help and glad you are working so hard to make change happen
This is such a great idea, will retweet and facebook too, Good luck, x x
Great cause, will comment on Facebook also!

WTG y’all!
This is just too humbling, guys! I’ve donated w/RBW gals, but I’m glad to comment and say God Bless you all for your generous natures!
Mel
What a wonderful thing you are doing!! I’m glad to leave a comment. Sorry it can’t be more.
Good for you for doing this!
Awesome to see this. Now I must go tweet about it, and hopefully bring others running.
thanks for the generosity and hard work (=
This is awesome. Good for you!
This is great, keep up the good work!
Great cause! Read about this on Shiloh Walker’s blog. Keep it up.
I think it’s great everyone is trying to help. It’s nice to hear about the good things people are doing.
You are a true HUMANITARIAN!
I’m happy to help a humanitarian crisis whenever I can, and if my comment can help, I am more than willing to contribute. Keep up the awesome work for a good cause.
This is for a very good cause. Thank you for making people aware of the crisis.
I hope you help raise awareness of this terrible situation. Good luck!
This is awesome, thank you for doing this! I’ll spread the word.
Every little bit helps! Just saw more articles about the pain and suffering from this area- just horrible! We take so much for granted.
Limecello is an inspiration by seeing a need and taking steps to help. I am on my way to donate $10 because I can skip a lunch out to help someone who didn’t get lunch…or breakfast…or anything for days.
It’s so heartbreaking to think about the suffering of children. I’m glad that you are bringing attention to this. You are doing a lot of good!
I’ll spread the word!
One of my favorite authors Shiloh Walker sent me here and the statistics of famine & draught in Africa are staggeringly horrifying. While I can’t afford to donate right now, I can spread the word and help you exceed the 500 comment mark. May God watch over the tiny angels of Africa and ease their suffering.
A very worthwhile cause. But you have to fix the source of the problem, not just treat the symptoms.
@Karen, that’s the lovely thing about the charity Lime has highlighted… Save the Children is one of the charities that doesn’t just work to provide emergency relief, although in a famine, emergency relief is crucial. I believe they are also one of the ones that try to establish lasting programs, as well as educational programs that can help break that chain. And taking any step is a right step.
Thank you for standing up for what matters to you most and making a difference…..
Shiloh’s post sent me here, what a wonderful thing you’re doing! But I always wonder about all those in all lands that are going without enough to eat or water to drink.
This is an awesome thing you’re doing, Lime. No one, especially children, should ever have to suffer. I donated $25 thru the STC matching site. Wish I could’ve done more.
This effort rocks. Good luck with it. I just posted a link on my Face Book page. If you are on FB you can share to your own page. I have asked for comments. http://www.facebook.com/vannie.ryanes

I saw this posted on Shiloh Walker’s blog. This is such a great way to increase awarenes. Thank you for doing this.
Came back for another visit – you’re doing great!
What an amazing way to raise money! Good luck with your fundraising
What a wonderful idea…going viral. I hope you reach your goal and then some. Will help to spread the word.
Commenting for change… This is the time when you actually WANT trolls! Great idea, Limecello.
Lime you rock I am going to donate $10 and I’ll definiitely retweet this one.
Girl you are an inspiration to us all.
Great cause. Good luck reaching the goals and thanks for introducing the charity and cause to those of us who havent heard of it before.
Comment, I hope you reach all the goals
Wow,you are doing an awesome thing and I hope you surpass your goal!
When I hear politicians griping about this and that, I think of my trip to India and I want to shake them. Do you know how lucky we are???
This region sounds like it would love to have our “problems.”
What a wonderful thing your doing! Easy to forget just how good we have it…
What a wonderful thing you are doing. I saw this on the news yesterday and it is heartbreaking. We are looking into donating
I truly hope you reach your goal. This is a great thing you are doing.
Just donated $10 via the save the children matching gift appeal link…In March my son was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and i have learned personally how difficult it is as a mother to watch your child suffer with little you can do for them, so because of that I wanted to donate the money I had put aside for buying myself another book, I think it will be better used to help ensure another mother doesn’t have to watch her child suffer, I only wish I could donate more…
I hope you reach your goal. This is a wonderful thing you are doing.
Kudos to you for raising awarness on this issue and thank you for providing a reputable charity to donate too.
I’m with Secret Cravings Publishing and will donate $50.00! Thank you for getting this started. I know every dollar makes a difference here! I’ll certainly spread the word too!

Whee on all the money being raised! Let’s get some more.
Hope this comment helps you reach another goal!
I wish I could afford to contribute, but like Limecello, I am among the, uh, gainfully (?) unemployed, and have been for the last three years. My thanks go out to all those who can contribute, and to those who have also donated prizes.
Later,
Lynn
Great idea. Hope my comment helps reach your goal!
What a wonderful idea and how to use social media in a responsible manner. Spreading the word.
This is a wonderful cause. I will tell others about this blog, and hope you reach your goal.
Thanks, Melissa K
How could I not comment? What a wonderful idea and worthy cause.
What a great idea to raise awareness of such a tragic event and the daily suffering and loss of life.
Lime, just had fun chatting with you and Mo at Romance Reviews Today, now I am going to find that matching spot to click and donate, while I am still employed!

Just saw this for the first time today… What a great cause. I will add my donation of $100 into the pot!
I can’t believe I missed this! What a fantastic idea and great to see so many people supporting it.
just saw the email for this so I’m leaving a comment to help out a great cause.
I can’t afford to send money, but I’m willing to help the way that I can, so here’s my drop in the bucket.
Going to double my pledge from $10 to $20. I know it’s not a ton of money, but I do have a lean wallet…it’s the least I can do.
Anyone else feel like revising your pledge upwards? Chime in! Every little bit helps!
Huggles!
I’ll check out the pledge link. Thanks.
Here is my contribution to the number. Wish I could afford a large monetary donation as well.
What an awesome post Lime! I’m so proud to be a part of the romance community, you do good work! Keep it up!
It’s great to see the total keep growing! Keep up the great work everyone!
This is so wonderful the people that are coming together! Thanks for choosing a great cause!
Another great post for a great cause! Thanks for organizing this, Lime!
May this benefit all involved.
I wish these comments were numbered so we could all see how many there were! This is such a worthy cause.
Thanks Laura! I don’t know how to get the individual comments numbered with an unhosted site :X but if you go to the top of the comments, it’ll say the number – so you were 487, and with my reply, I think it’ll be 488? (Because who’s really going to begrudge a response or call comment inflation on a charity post?)
Wonderful thing you have been using your blog for Limecello.
I hope you hit the 500 mark today and get many more comments by the end of the month
This problem seems so insurmountable, but the solution begins with one person/idea/action. Today that person is you. Thanks!
Thanks for drawing attention to this problem and for helping out!
I finally got it to load up and so worthy of what you are all doing! Thank you all!
[...] and most importantly, my Save the Children fundraising drive is still going on. Ask your friends and family to comment as well, please – have them say you [...]
sorry for dropping by so late, hope my comment counts
In addition to the opportunity to support a great cause, I have to say the prize list is absolutely fantastic as well!

I’m always in awe of how wonderful the romance community is when there’s a need that needs to be met. This is a wonderful endeavor and I’m sorry that finances keep me from doing more than commenting. I’ll be tweeting like crazy though to get the word out!
Adding my comment for the cause!
I hope this helps. It’s unbelievable that these people are starving when there’s so much abundance in the world. Good for you for doing somethimg!
Worthy cause and so little effort necessary to help out!
So nice to see people coming together in this way.
[...] Oh, and while you’re at Lime’s blog, have a look at her homepage article, entitled: A Humanitarian Crisis: What We Can Do To Help. [...]
What a great thing to do. Thanks for taking the time and effort to help those truly in need.
Here from SmartBitches. I like the way this works, making us think and react personally rather than just write a check. Good luck and thanks for doing this all of you!
Consider this one more drop in the ocean.
Great cause! I’ll definitely help spread the word
Definitely going to spread the word on this. This is a great cause!!
This reminds me a lot of Disney song “Make a Wave”
Love that song & the message it sends.
Great cause limecello! Thank you for organizing such a massive effort.
Lime, you always are the best person to bring these things to the attention to others. Thankyou for being you and having such a huge heart

This is incredible. The romance community has some damn fine people in it
.
You are very inspiring. Such a great cause.
Heard an interview of former senator Bill Frist on npr about this on Tuesday. So little from us can go such a long way to help. Thanks, limecello!
I spent $4 on coffee today, I think if I can afford a latte I can afford to help. I’m clicking the link now.
Followed link from SBTB to you to Matching Grant page for Save the Children. Thanks for hosting this reminder that we all live in a global village.

I wish there were more people, interested people, doing something more… I should be one of those.
I saw this on Larissa Ione’s Facebook page, Great Idea and worthy cause!
A great cause, a terrible disaster….I wish I was also in a position to donate myself… Your hearts are definately in the right place. I will share this with others. Thank you…
I saw this on Larrisa Ione’s FB post..I think it’s wonderful that there’s a place where you can help just by doing what you do every day – post online!
I wish I was able to donate, but I have been unemployed for a long time, and am having a very hard time finding employment due to physical restrictions. I hope that this helps and inspires others to help whereever they can.
I forgo to mention that Larissa Ione asked us to come post! Hope you reach your goal of 600 comments!
manning_j2004 at yahoo dot com
I also heard from Larissa Ione, this is great! Hope I helped!
I have already donated but I wanted to say thank you Limecello for the sweet chat we had yesterday through email yesterday.
I also wanted to let everyone know that the tragedy in Africa and elsewhere in the world is not their problem, but the human races’s problem. The entire worlds problem.
I cannot watch the nightly news about the money problems of the world without getting angry at corporate America. It is the world that needs to start paying attention to the worlds starving people. If we can take care of our brothers and sisters that are starving, the rest of the worlds problems will take care of itself.
Why? Because when compassion for those that are worse off than we are…and we give to those who have nothing….the world becomes calmer and things will get better. I do have faith in that if nothing else.
Awesome paying it forward life time event…*S*
You rock!
I’m so happy that there are so many comments for this great cause!
This is amazing. I will spread the word!!!
I think that this is a great idea, as you said social media can be a benefit. I hope that my comment helps your cause.

Thank you Limoncello for putting another spotlight on this great tragedy. The more who report about this, the more it will get into people’s conscious and I pray that more help will come to this area.

Thank you for all the great info and the awareness it brings.
Wow, Lime, it’s wonderful that you’re coordinating this effort! So glad I popped my head out of my writing cave when I did. I just donated $100 through your matching funds link which said they’ll quadruple it.
Thanks for pulling this together, Lime–meant to comment earlier, but glad there’s still time!
Thanks for putting this together. Social Media is a great way to reach out.
This is an awesome thing you are doing. To bring awareness through your blog is a very self-less act.
Thanks for keeping us aware.
Keep up the great things you are doing.
Wow, I think that this is totally awesome. It’s amazing what word of mouth and ambition will do to help.
Keep doing what your doing….
Thank you for the donation information and for the rest of your efforts.
I wished I could help with the money part but times are tough. It breaks my heart to see pictures from over there. Extremely sad. I hope the comments add up fast.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Hehe.. Had to post.. I think this makes it 600…
Such a great thing you are doing here.
I wish there was more I could do.
happy to be apart of this
Thanks for bringing this issue up. Hope all the comments and donations make a difference!
Those stats are awful. I have a friend who works with the UN helping refugees. I think it’s hard for many of us to imagine just what it would be like to be in their situation.
Here is one more. Good luck and thanks to the contributors.
Thanks for all the information and the reminder of what’s important.
“The first day or so, we all pointed to our countries. The third or fourth day, we were pointing to our continents. By the fifth day, we were aware of only one Earth.” (Sultan bin Salman Al-Saud, astronaut)
Wow! This is fantastic! I’m so glad you’re doing this, L! And thanks to everyone who is donating.
Amazing mission!
Makes me always feel good when people & organizations come together for the greater good! Hope you all not only reach, but surpass your goal! Best wishes!!!

Magnificent effort on everyone’s part. I’m so pleased to add my light to the collective light.
This is an amazing effort and mission. Good luck!
I appauld those of us that help, but and I have one I feel that here in the United States we have children starving and living in cars that we should help here. Good Luck…..
Even though there’s a competitive theme to drives like this, giving to great organizations doesn’t have to be competitive. If you have more than one cause that’s important to you, why not give to more than one organization?
Endelia – I agree with you wholeheartedly, which is why I put a lot of time and effort into choosing the charity, Save the Children, which is an international organization. Because of it’s programs and excellent ratings, as I said, I trust they’ll use the money wisely and where it’s most needed. Considering the positive response across the board to the organization, I cannot imagine they’d ignore need “at home.” Which, is the fun part of the blogging and online community, because “here” is all over the world.

Since it’s for the children, I’m adding a comment.
Heya Lime this is a great cause. Too many kids have no one to advocate for them. No one to help them. And even a small amount of money can feed soooo many! Thanks for taking on such a wonderful thing!
Good luck, and thanks for all your efforts!

Hi, I’ve just added $50 for you Lime. Seems so wrong that I spend so much time fighting to lose weight, and these poor kids can’t get enough food to stay alive. The world makes no sense some times. Thank goodness there are people like you are making a difference.
I just went to the matching site and donated $25. I’m published at Ellora’s Cave so put me down as another small press author.

What a great cause.
Information well presented and very useful.
This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, indeed.
This weblog is wonderful. There’s always all of the right info in the tips of my fingers. Many thanks and keep up the great work!
Hi there, You have done a great job. I will certainly digg it and personally suggest to my friends. I’m sure they will be benefited from this website.
I precisely wished to thank you very much once more. I’m not certain the things that I would’ve followed without the entire basics discussed by you about that subject matter. Certainly was a real frightening case in my opinion, but taking note of a specialized avenue you treated it forced me to leap with happiness. I am happy for your advice and thus pray you are aware of a great job your are providing training most people through the use of your webpage. I know that you’ve never come across all of us.
Many thanks for taking the time to write down this article. It’s been incredibly useful. It couldn’t have arrive at a far better time for me!
